Rotis aka Trader Joe's Tortillas
I saw a friend make Rotis out of Trader Joe’s Tortillas and I decided to try it out myself. It was remarkably easily and the “Rotis” were tasty too, as good as the Rotis/Chapattis made back home. All that had to be done was, to medium heat a pan, put the tortilla on it, add a few drops of oil to the tortilla and turn it a few times on its sides. That was it! I would now like...
Eid Mubarak!
Eid Mubarak! to all friends in the blogging world. Hope your Taqwa increases and you gain Fazeelath from the Almighty Allah.
A testing Roza
I had fever yesterday and thought I’d not be able to fast but Shukur Alhamdulillah I was able to. Things took a twist when around Zuhr midway through the Roza, I got a tooth ache and it prolonged till almost the end of the fast. One good thing about the tooth ache was that because of it I forgot about the weakness which was present after the fever had subsided. To top these problems, I had...
Darwin's Theory of Evolution
I was watching a film based on the book “Collapse of Darwinism” by Harun Yahya . It was excellent and exposed the various flaws in the theory. This is one of the celebrated theories which neither has any basis nor any proofs till date. The foundation of this theory is that living creatures evolved from non-living things by co-inicidence! Experiments to substantiate this claim were made...
Snowfall
It snowed large flakes today and was a pretty sight to look at. I hadn’t seen a snowfall before though I’ve walked on roads laden with snow. I was at work when it was snowing and did not have a camera with me so could not take a picture. I am sure it would have made a good photograph. But the consequence of all the snow is that the weather has become unbearably cold (I am from a city...
The White Balloon
Yesterday, I watched an Iranian film called “The White Balloon”, again. I had seen this film sometime back and watched it again yesterday. This film is based on a simple incident about a small girl losing her money while going to buy a Goldfish. It is a nicely made film without any of the razzmatazz that is present in the films of today. The film does not contain any songs, violence or...
Muslim Scientists and Philosophers in the Medieval...
I had this compelling feeling to write about the contribution of Muslims to the World in the areas of Science and Technology. This thought has been fuelled by comments and views aired by a large cross-section of people calling us an assembly of warriors and conquerors. I thought it was time to put things in perspective and start with a post on Muslim Scientists and Philosophers in the Medieval...
Tomato Chutney!
I was able to make Tomato Chutney today and it was edible too! I followed my mother’s recipe which is a simple one. Here it is - Ingredients: Oil, Mustard seeds, Onion -1, Tomatoes -3, Haldi (turmeric powder), Red Chilli powder, Tamarind Paste & Salt Steps:
Cut onions and tomatoes and keep them aside.
Heat oil - 2 tbsp and add mustard seeds.
When the mustard seeds start to pop,...
Ustaad NFAK - The One and Only
I was listening to the Marhoom (Late) Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and I said to myself (as I always do when I listen to him) that he is the best, the best ever. In Hindustani classical there is no one even close to him. The classical notes from the King of Qawwalies flow as smooth as a stream of water. He lifts you with his high pitched notes and his soulful rendering of the lyrics. Mast Qalander,...
A gratifying Jummah
Today was a good day for me. I went to the Jummah prayer when a former colleague and good friend came to pick me up in his car. Its been a while since I went to the mosque due to the lack of a car and a driving license. I have been praying for the last few months at home. Just to get the feel of Jummah, I listen to the Khutba from Haram Sharif, Makkah through the Saudi site on the net and then...
Food for the soul
My roommate returned back to India for good and I am now all alone in the apartment. I reckon this is a good opportunity to introspect myself and clean up my soul. Its Ramzaan anyway and its time to humble one’s self and show remembrance to Allah in more ways than one. The rewards are multiplied in this month and most importantly, Shaitaan is locked up somewhere. So its just our...
