Train Commute in the new EMU
I had been to Esplanade to attend a gathering. While returning I chose to commute by the local electric train (also known as EMU - Electric Multiple Units). I have always been nostalgic about electric trains and it was the primary mode of commuting to and from college. We had a good group of friends including Sushil who used to commute by train. It was fun as we travelled in the opposite...

Discount Sale?
A colleague was telling me this morning that there was a Reebok sale and that the discounts were good. I asked him more and he mentioned that anything that was priced over Rs.2000 was sold for Rs.1000 less. With great hope (in fact I was sure) I asked him whether that included shoes too, he said no and mentioned that it included only T-shirts and other apparel. I was totally shocked. T-Shirts,...

Raining in Chennai and a few movies
Its been raining in Chennai lately, especially in the nights and very heavily too. This is kind of odd as July is not supposed to be a monsoon month. But no one ‘s complaining as the weather has become cooler and more importantly the rains ensure that there is sufficient water supply for the city in the next few months. In the meanwhile, I’ve managed to watch a few movies -...

All Goods Foreign
As a child I have been fascinated with all things foreign, toys in particular, clothes, chocolates, shoes, the whole lot. Whenever I heard news of an uncle or aunt arriving from a foreign country, I used to wait unashamedly for them, in anticipation of the things that they would bring for me. Expectedly, I would be overjoyed when someone gifted me a toy or would become inconsolable when they did...

The City Corporation & Us
It is kind of weird how government organizations here operate. First it was with our Voter’s ID, all voters’ names in my household got deleted unceremoniously. Now, its with our Family Ration card, all our neighbours get one but we do not, and for no reason. The Govt. official responsible for distributing the cards nonchalantly says that our card is not available and does not know the...

Alive in Chennai
I am back in Chennai now - its actually been more than 3 months since I got back from the US. Things at work have been nice and quiet all through this time (which I agree is very unusual). I have also been pushed up the corporate ladder a bit. So far so good. Hope nothing drastic happens in the future too.
