Nungambakkam to Guindy in less than 15 minutes!
With traffic in the city becoming increasingly chaotic, I decided to try out the local train and was not disappointed. A few minutes walk to the station, bought the ticket and hopped on to a train. With the recently introduced Railway “Smart Card”, buying tickets is a breeze. The “Smart Card” is a prepaid card that one needs to use to buy a ticket from the vending machine....

Just finished watching Mongol; Genghis Khan is made to look like a saint in the movie, a far cry from what is in the common history texts

A Ride Across Chennai
The nice weather today incited me to get on to an auto rickshaw to go around the city and enjoy the scene. There was a slight drizzle and the city looked pretty good. Almost half of the route was punctuated by -

Batpod
Just finished watching “The Dark Knight” and thought that the movie was okay, very similar to the Batman movies made earlier. The part of the Joker was played brilliantly. What I did like in this movie was the “Batpod” - the bike that Batman rode. The large tyres and the low front make it a standout dragster.
Managed to successfully update the Nokia E51 firmware; don’t see any visible difference in the phone operation though…
Bangladesh win a ODI after a really long time. Victory must be really sweet for them.

Where have the posts gone?
A few friends have remarked that I do not blog as regularly as I used to a few years back. I used to blog at blogger and moved to Tumblr at the start of the year. It was a conscious decision as:
I had lost the patience to write decent sized posts
Tumblr could pull tweets: quick and dirty (?) thoughts from twitter. Thus ensuring that this site would not stagnate.
But I do realize that...

Glimpses of a Bygone Era
I have always been fascinated by Indian history and the times under the British, Mughals, Marathas and other rulers. I managed to get a few popular books on history from local libraries and from public domain sources on the net (Project Gutenberg - www.Gutenberg.org) and started reading them. Notable ones being “The Last Mughal” by William Dalrymple and “A Ride to India across...
