text 4 Jun Unique Gurgaon!

Gurgaon Skyline

I am in Gurgaon on a work related visit. Here are some of my initial thoughts on the city.

  • The number of cars on the road are far higher than the number of 2-wheelers, very uncharacteristic of Indian cities. The car:2-wheeler ratio is approximately 8:1.
  • Auto rickshaws are non-existent, buses are far and few.
  • City roads and highways are wide and seem well planned
  • Lots of high class, well constructed buildings that house multi-national organizations
  • Very few people walk on the road
  • Lots of similarities with US cities/towns - roads, number of cars, people walking/on the road, malls, building architectures
  • The people seem to be either highly affluent or very poor; there is virtually no middle class
  • The hotels reflect the setup; either they are posh, highly priced and sophisticated or road-side eateries
  • The taxi drivers and other blue-collar folks appear to be stressed out and do not seem to converse freely

Again, these are just my observations, others’ mileage will vary.
