Reading Mashable.com’s post on Grooveshark Lite, I signed up on the site yesterday. I received the invite code today and completed the signing up process which required installing a client on the desktop. The site says that if we listen to free content, we get paid (they probably charge for hosting the songs?) and our listening is tracked through the client. This is not required for listening through GrooveShark Lite which is a streaming interface to the main site.
I listened to Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rabbi Shergill and Atif Aslam. Downloading a song takes you to the main site, where it costs $0.99 a song. When listening to a song, a list of similar songs shows up. The cool feature is the “Auto Play”, which throws up a similar song after the one you were listening to is done playing.
I thought that the songs from the Indian sub-continent were fewer compared to Last.fm. So, I may alternate between the two for the moment. As the content in the site grows, I may switch loyalties :)
Pros
- Great UI
- Cool “Auto Play” feature
Cons
- Lesser songs from the Indian Sub-Continent
