text 8 Nov Ustaad NFAK - The One and Only

I was listening to the Marhoom (Late) Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and I said to myself (as I always do when I listen to him) that he is the best, the best ever. In Hindustani classical there is no one even close to him. The classical notes from the King of Qawwalies flow as smooth as a stream of water. He lifts you with his high pitched notes and his soulful rendering of the lyrics. Mast Qalander, Mera Piya Ghar Aaya, Allah Hoo, Tere Bin Nahin Lagda… the list is endless. I would say that he passed away early because he had achieved in the musical world what other artists can only dream to achieve of in their full life span. Will the world ever get to see another artist of his magnitude? I don’t think so. May his soul get Maghfirath. Ameen.
