text 5 Jan A few recent movies

I saw some movies in the past few weeks. Among them were, Paycheck, LOC Kargil, Kal Ho Na Ho, Jaanasheen and Pithamagan (Tamil).

Paycheck was not bad but could have had a better heroine (Uma Thurman was yuck) or the heroine could have been done away with. Otherwise, the film was pretty okay. It was a usual kind of movie with lots of special effects. I’ve learned from people that John Woo is famous for pyrotechnics and this film too had its fair share of them.

I did not like LOC Kargil. The language in the film was filthy and the film lasted over 4 hours. The screenplay was so bad that after a point the audience was easily able to predict what was going to happen next. Kal Ho Na Ho was a pretty decent film loosely based on the old Hindi film “Anand” starring Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. Pithamagan, I thought was good, despite the fact that there was too much violence in the film, I thought the performance of Vikram was impressive. Jaanasheen is a film that is so pathetic that I will not write anything about it.
