I’ve been following the on-going Cricket series between India and Pakistan avidly. The matches have been fiercely competed and the crowds, from what I have read, seem very well-behaved. The only thing that I disliked was the quality of the pitches. I watch both forms of the game - tests and one-dayers, and I believe that bowlers should be provided a fair oppurtunity to perform. While I agree that the one-day format is designed with batsmen in mind, at least the pitches should allow for bowlers to reap some benefit when they toil. Not so long ago, a score of 250 was considered a good one and 270+ was considered match-winning. But now teams seem to be chasing scores over 300 without too much sweat.
The ground authorities should realize that the all-round quality of the game is getting affected and prepare true pitches rather than flat, dead wickets. True pitches will provide all-round entertainment not just a show of bludgeoning runs.
