I watched Swades last weekend and found it very watchable. It was free from the usual Masala that Bollywood movies contain and had a message too. Shah Rukh, I thought was very toned down and did a pretty good job. The movie did not move at a frenetic pace as many movies recently do. The songs were melodious and did not seem out of place. I liked Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera and Saanwariya. The other songs were good too. The characters, like Lagaan were well etched. In places, I was reminded of Dilip Kumar’s classic Naya Daur. The heroine Gayatri, looked the part, and she had a meaningful role.

All in all, I enjoyed the movie and would not mind watching it again. The only problem though, is that it makes me home sick! Ammi, I want to come back home now!!
