text 18 Jul The City Corporation & Us

It is kind of weird how government organizations here operate. First it was with our Voter’s ID, all voters’ names in my household got deleted unceremoniously. Now, its with our Family Ration card, all our neighbours get one but we do not, and for no reason. The Govt. official responsible for distributing the cards nonchalantly says that our card is not available and does not know the reason - truly characterestic of Govt. officials and extremely irritating.

Is a ration card that important, you may ask - well, its kind of equivalent to the Social Security Card in the US, though at an elementary level. To get a Driver’s license, a Passport or to open a bank account (in case the former two do not exist) and as an address proof, a ration card is required.

Its been announced that people with complaints related to ration cards can contact the corresponding Govt. office on July 30th. Hope the small booklet that reiterates our identity comes into our possession then.
