text 11 Mar Alexander - Poor Fare

I had been wanting to watch the movie Alexander for a long time now and finally managed to do so on DVD. As was told by my colleagues at work, the movie was really poor. Having read so much about Alexander in history, I had expected a lot more. I had envisioned this movie as an epic in the lines of Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments. But it was a far cry from that.

The war scenes, in particular, were drab. I have seen much smaller budget movies with better executed war scenes. Collin Farrell as Alexander lacked screen presence and persona, and gave rise to doubts on the real Alexander’s personality and command. He seemed to portray Alexander as a confused monarch with no vision.

A lot of scenes had strong under currents of homosexuality and were irritating to watch though they might have been necessary as part of the biography. One thing that surprised me was that Alexander is shown as the defeated king in the battle in India while I remember learning in history that it was Porus, the Indian king who had lost. SDstrange.

All in all a poor movie that can be safely avoided.
